How does Bluetooth proximity detection work?
A transmitter continuously broadcasts a low-power radio signal, and a receiver measures the strength of that signal to estimate the distance between them: the stronger the signal, the closer the device. That is the basic principle, and it fits in one sentence. Everything else is a matter of refinement.
The modern version of this technology is called Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). As the name suggests, it is designed to use very little energy: a sensor can transmit for months, even years, on a tiny battery. Your smartphone understands it natively, with no exotic accessory or app.

A GPS tracker locates your motorcycle hundreds of kilometres away, but loses the satellite signal as soon as it goes one floor underground. Proximity detection, on the other hand, only reaches a few dozen metres, but works everywhere, including below ground.

How does the GeoRide 3s recognise your phone?

The GeoRide 3s automatically disarms protection when your authorised phone is nearby, then arms itself again after 30 seconds of inactivity. You walk up to your motorcycle, it recognises you. You leave, it goes back on guard. No button, no compulsory fob, nothing to do.

Can underground radar really find a motorcycle without a network?

Yes, and that is exactly what it was designed for. GPS works up to the car park entrance; from there, the GeoRide app switches on a Bluetooth radar that scans the surroundings and guides you precisely to the motorcycle, on a "getting closer / getting further away" basis. With or without network: the guidance relies solely on the signal strength between your phone and the unit, where a classic GPS tracker falls silent from the first basement level.

What does Live Detect pick up in your garage or top box?
Live Detect detects opening: a garage door, a lock-up, or even a top box or a pannier. It is made of two parts that talk to each other over Bluetooth as long as they are in contact. As soon as they separate, an alert goes straight to your phone. You are warned before anyone even touches the motorcycle.

The accessory is 100% wireless and fits in 30 seconds, with no tools. It communicates over short-range Bluetooth with the unit: it must stay within 10 metres of the GeoRide 3s, and you can pair up to 4 with the same unit (lock-up door, gate, gear cupboard...).
