About GeoRide: how did the idea of an app for riders come about?
In 2017, Thomas came up with the idea of developing an Android app for riders connected to a tracker, after his own motorcycle was stolen despite the secure car park it was in. A motorcycle fan since childhood and owner of a yellow DRZ supermoto for several years, the theft hit him hard. Losing your motorcycle means losing a part of yourself, along with all the memories that go with it.
So, on the advice of friends, he looked into the various motorcycle anti-theft devices available at the time. Plenty of audible alarms, but few were connected to a phone. He investigated the connected ones, comparing all the reviews and testimonials he could find, and was deeply disappointed by the offers and features available. None of the features on offer let the owner know a theft attempt was under way as it happened, or track their motorcycle with flawless reliability. Running on batteries, most trackers suffered from poor battery life, as well as limited accuracy and responsiveness.
Thomas then decided to work on an app for motorcycles and riders that would meet his own expectations, shared by most of the riding community. Three main features: a motorcycle GPS tracker to know your motorcycle's position in real time and review all your trips, a connected alarm to be alerted at the slightest shock to your vehicle with the option of triggering a 110 dB siren remotely, and finally a crash and parking fall detector so riders and their loved ones can enjoy total peace of mind.
Taking on this new project meant a lot to him. It was not about building just another GPS tracker, but about designing a tool that could reassure any motorcycle owner and let them sleep soundly at night.
An iPhone app for riders that lives up to the community's expectations
GeoRide is an iPhone app for riders paired with a connected tracker (also available on the Play Store), first developed in early November 2017. It was designed to meet the many expectations of the riding community: reassuring motorcycle owners, reassuring their friends and family when they are out riding, and further strengthening the solidarity of an already tight-knit community.
Walane designed a tracker whose primary purpose was anti-theft protection. Connected to the motorcycle's battery to avoid poor battery life and unreliable operation, it communicates with an Android and iPhone app installed on your smartphone. As his research progressed, he added more features to the tracker and app, including the fall detector that contacts the user's loved ones in the event of a parking fall or an accident.
In June 2018, GeoRide launched and finally met its public.
The notification or automatic phone call triggered at the slightest vibration of the motorcycle gave users a huge sense of peace of mind, which contributed greatly to GeoRide's success.
