Corroded terminals or a sulfated battery: what do you do?

Corroded terminals clean up with a wire brush and a little baking soda mixed into water; sulfation calls for a charger with a desulfation mode, provided it has not gone too far. Both work quietly: the bike starts worse and worse for no obvious reason.

Is it the battery or the charging system?
