GeoRide 2026 update: faster GPS lock and a steadier network
GeoRide is rolling out the biggest update its device has ever had: a much faster GPS lock, rides that start far closer to where you actually pulled away, and a noticeably steadier network connection. It's free, there's nothing fiddly to do, and it covers the GeoRide 3s as well as the GeoRide 3. Thomas, GeoRide's founder, walks through all of it in a short posted on 20 August 2026.
The key points
- The GPS lock is much faster: your rides now start right about where you really set off, even in town.
- Those rare little dropouts in the middle of a ride are gone.
- The network connection holds up better, and the update process has been rebuilt from the ground up, on the device and in the app.
- It's free, on the GeoRide 3s and on the GeoRide 3. Widgets and smartwatch apps come next.
What changes with the GPS lock?
The device now locks onto satellites far quicker, even on the trickiest installs, so your ride starts much closer to where you actually pulled away. Until now, with the GPS tracker buried deep inside the bike, picking up the signal could take a while, especially in town where buildings get in the way of reception. The upshot, Thomas says, was that some riders saw their ride begin a few hundred meters from where they really set off.
That speed-up also clears up the small dropouts a handful of riders would see mid-ride. Very rare, “the 1% of the 1%” of devices out there according to Thomas, but sorted now. The improvement went out first to around 10% of devices in the field, Thomas says, and the results in-house were called stunning.
“I honestly think this is the biggest update yet, not to the app, but to GeoRide itself.” Thomas, GeoRide founder
Is the network connection really steadier?
Yes, and it's the second big piece of work in this update: the link between the device and the network is far more solid. GeoRide has always been upfront about this, the app says plainly “Protected by GeoRide” when the device is online and “GeoRide local protection” when it's off the network. Flipping between the two too often could get on your nerves, and that's exactly what this version puts right.
The update process itself has been rebuilt from the ground up, on the device as well as in the app, just as Automatic phone recognition was earlier this year.
“Honestly, just run the update. You can do it with your eyes closed.” Thomas, GeoRide founder
| Improvement | What it means for you | Devices covered |
|---|---|---|
| Faster GPS lock | Rides that start where you really set off, no more dropouts | GeoRide 3 and GeoRide 3s |
| Steadier network connection | Reliable connection status, less flipping back and forth | GeoRide 3 and GeoRide 3s |
| Rebuilt update process | Simpler to install, on the device and in the app | GeoRide 3 and GeoRide 3s |
What does the update cost, and what's coming next?
Nothing: the update is free, like every device and app improvement since day one. That's the house rule, free lifetime updates, and they land on the GeoRide 3s just as much as on the GeoRide 3, which came out five years ago according to Thomas. So the GPS tracker you own today does more than the one you unboxed.
What comes next is already in the video: widgets for Android and iPhone, then apps for Garmin, Apple Watch and Google smartwatches. It follows on nicely from the new app and Motonaut, both unveiled in July. Thomas is also asking everyone to drop their ideas for improvements in the comments under the short.
What GeoRide brings to the table
A faster GPS lock is the GeoRide promise pushed one step further: a GPS tracker in genuine real time, up to 10 positions per second through the corners, with accuracy that can drop below a meter thanks to Galileo. Your rides are recorded from the very first meters and your motorcycle stays tracked without any stutter. New to GeoRide?
