GeoRide protects your personal data with one simple rule: it belongs to you. Your rides and your position stay in your account, nothing is shared by default, and every share with family and friends is voluntary, adjustable and revocable at any time. Does a motorcycle GPS tracker track you?

No: a GPS tracker like GeoRide locates your motorcycle to protect it, not to keep an eye on the rider. The position is there to alert you if there is suspicious movement, to find the motorcycle if it is moved, and to call the emergency services after a serious crash. It is your data, and it works for you.

What data does GeoRide record, and what for?

GeoRide records what is needed to protect your motorcycle and enrich your rides: position, journeys and vehicle status. Every piece of data has a concrete purpose that you find directly in the app.

Position first: up to 10 positions per second through a bend, one every 5 seconds in a straight line, with accuracy that goes below one metre thanks to Galileo. That frequency serves two purposes: immediate alerts if your motorcycle moves without you, and a faithful trace of your rides. It also feeds the zone exit alerts, which warn you when the motorcycle leaves a perimeter you have set.

Journeys next: distance, duration, average and maximum speeds, weather, towns passed through, altitude, and lean angle on the GeoRide 3s. That is the raw material for your replays and your statistics, available in the app and on the web interface.

Finally, the state of the motorcycle: odometer, battery voltage, temperature where it is parked. This information feeds the dashboard and your customisable maintenance reminders.

Who can see your position and your rides?

Nobody, as long as you have shared nothing. Sharing with family and friends is a feature you turn on deliberately, and GeoRide offers four modes so you can set it to exactly what you want to show.

The "only in the event of a crash" mode sums up the philosophy nicely: the people close to you see nothing as long as all is well, and are warned only if something happens to you. Zone notifications, meanwhile, replace the "got there safely" text you always forget to send, without ever showing the ride itself. And the real-time position web link is also used by the police in the event of a theft, with no app for them to install.

Can recorded speed be used against you?

No: the speed measured by GeoRide is a personal, confidential statistic, and it can never be used against you. The unit is not a certified speed measuring instrument, so its readings carry no weight for issuing a penalty to anyone.

It is a question that comes up often among riders hesitating to fit a GPS tracker: "if my speeds are recorded, can they be held against me?". The answer is simple: those figures exist for you, in your ride statistics, in the same way as the weather or the number of bends. They help you relive your rides and follow your riding, nothing else.

That framing applies to all your riding data: it is designed as a personal logbook, not as a file on you.

Are the GeoRide 3s Bluetooth signals secure?

Yes, both of the GeoRide 3s exclusive Bluetooth features were designed with security as a starting constraint. They are good examples of protection built in from the design stage, a principle the GDPR encourages for any digital service.

Automatic phone recognition, which disarms the unit when your authorised phone comes close, relies on advanced anti-cloning cryptography, inspired by the technology Tesla uses. It works without an internet connection, on iOS and on Android, and it is designed so that no other device can pass itself off as your phone.

Underground radar detection, which guides you to your motorcycle when GPS no longer gets through, only activates when the authorised phone is nearby. So it is impossible to intercept the signal and locate the motorcycle in your place. An intelligent jamming detection system completes the setup. And in the event of a theft, it is you who grants the police permission to use that detection, through post-theft Assistance.

What rights does the GDPR give you over your data?

The GDPR guarantees every European user rights of access, rectification, erasure and portability over their personal data, and those rights apply to your ride data just as they do to any other data. A service processing personal data in Europe must also tell you what it does with it; in France, the CNIL (the national data protection authority) makes sure these rules are followed.

On portability, GeoRide goes beyond the principle: the GPX export of your rides, available from the web interface, lets you take your traces wherever you want, edit them in Garmin, Komoot or MyRouteApp, or share them with riders who do not have GeoRide.
